Born in 1944, he is one of the leading personalities in Romanian music, highly recognised as composer, performer and critic. He studied musical phenomenology and conducting (with Sergiu Celibidache).
In 1976 he founded the 'Hyperion' chamber music ensemble, which brings together leading musicians dedicated to the new aesthetics of the Romanian spectralist avangarde.
His compositions are based on ultraspectralism and acousmatics from a phenomenological point of view.

Selected works: Diachronies for piano (1967), New Meteors and Pulsars for tape and percussion (1982), Grande Ourse for two bassoons, prepared piano, percussion and tape (1983), Harryphonies Alpha for doublebass and ensemble (1985), Harryphonies Epsilon for soloists and orchestra (1986), Pierres Sacrées for prepared piano and metal objects (1991), Etoiles brisées for chamber ensemble (1998), eon - Dans un Désordre Absolu for bass clarinet, percussion, string ensemble and live electronics (1998), Temps condenses for ensemble and live electronics (1999), Objet sonore mystérieux, computer music (2000), Soleil explosant, computer music (2000), Oiseaux célestes, computer music (2000), Colossus for string orchestra and virtual percussion (2000), Remote Pulsar for viola, cello, piano/percussion and tape (2002).

Remote Pulsar. The music is made up of computer-generated sounds, as well as those of the viola, cello, prepared piano and percussion. In its essence, the music is as genuine as the map of the outer space, which is at the same time abstract. I imagined as yet unheard sounds and produced them by means of special computer programmes, as a cosmic reflection, in which computer sounds were mixed with the natural sources of transfigured acoustic sounds of classical instruments. The piece is dedicated to the 'Pro Contemporania' Ensemble.
