'KammarensembleN' was founded in 1984 by
the conductor Ansgar Krook (1962-92). Its members are
section leaders in Swedish orchestras, as well as soloists
and eminent chamber musicians. The ensemble's repertoire
focuses on contemporary music, in particular by Scandinavian
composers. It covers the whole spectrum of chamber music,
from solo pieces to works for sinfonietta. KammarensembleN
has been a source of inspiration to many composers, which
has resulted in over sixty premieres.
Considerable efforts have been made to bring out young
Swedish music, at the same time as international composers
have been introduced to Sweden.
The ensemble has worked together with leading conductors,
lighting technicians and video artists, such as Etienne
Glaser, Åsa Kalmér and Ann-Sofi Sidén, in concert
series like 'Tredje Örat' (1990-91), 'Virtuoser' (1992), 'Tioårsjubilèet'
(1994) and 'Rum i rummet' (1997). This has created a unique
atmosphere that has met with a strong response from
audiences and the press.
'KammarensembleN' has also participated in numerous
festivals of new music including 'Musikhost' in Odense
(1990), 'Sonorities' in Belfast (1991), Stockholm New Music
(1993 and 1996), 'Ultima' in Oslo (1993), 'Gaudeamus' in
Amsterdam (1994), iscm World Music Days in Stockholm (1994),
Composers' Biennale in Copenhagen (1996), the Huddersfield
Contemporary Music Festival (1997) and 'Time of Music' in
Viitasaari (1998).
