Boris Lenko was born in 1965 in Ružomberok
(Slovakia). He studied accordion with Anton Pittner at the
Conservatory in Žilina and with Marta Szökeová at the
Academy of Music and Drama. White still a student, he scored
successes at several competitions, including the Grand Prix
at the International Competition in Andrezieux, France
(1987) and Second Prize, awards of the Slovak and Czech
Music Funds and an honourable mention in duo playing (with
Lubomír Žovic) at the Competition in Hořovice (1986).
Since 1990, he has developed a fine career, performing a
broad repertoire comprising both transcriptions of early and
classical music and works written specially for the
accordion. Thanks to his successful appearances at
contemporary music festivals ('Melos-Ethos' and Evenings of
New Music in Bratislava), many composers have written pieces
specially for him. Slovak music occupies an important place
in his repertoire.
Foreign tours have taken him to Germany, Austria, Slovenia,
Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Yugoslavia and France. Since
1992, he has also appeared in a duo with accordionist
Raimund Kákoni. He has collaborated with various ensembles
('Požoň sentimentál', veni, 'Vapori del Cuore', Slovak
Sinfonietta, the Slovak Chamber Orchestra). Last year he
founded his own ensemble alea (piano, violin, double-bass,
accordion), whose primary goal is to perform works by Astor
Piazzolla.
Since 1989, Lenko has been a professor at the Academy of
Music and Drama in Bratislava. He also gives master classes.
In 1999 he taught during the Akkordeon Woche in Biel,
Switzerland
