bass clarinet solo (2003).
Samen Sterk (Together We1re Strong) was commissioned by
De Ereprijs Ensemble and is dedicated to Wim Boerman, the conductor Wim
Megens and the soloist Harry Sparnaay.
The piece is performed by a solo bass clarinet and the ensemble in its
full line-up. The starting point is an idea whereby joint effort brings
a much better result than the sum of efforts undertaken individually. In
the soloist1s intense collaboration with the ensemble, the dialogue with
individual instruments is of particular importance.
The soloist1s additional task is to coordinate and stimulate the ensemble,
like a Kappellmeister.
