Born 1965 in Holland, studied first in the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, then with Pierre Thibaud, Reinhold Friedrich and Markus Stockhausen.
His aim and wish is to further develop the trumpet, its technique and its repertoire. Many works are written especially for Marco Blaauw or instigated by him, amongst them compositions by Peter Eötvös, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Richard Ayres and Isabel Mundry. Marco Blaauw loves to relate music with other types of art.
He has an international career as a soloist; he also has played with such ensembles as musikFabrik, Klangforum Wien, Apartmenthouse, Schoenberg Ensemble and the Dutch Radio Symphony Orchestra. He will perform as a soloist in the premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen1s opera Mittwoch aus Licht.
His work is documented in various radio and cd productions.

sinfonia varsovia
The beginnings of Sinfonia Varsovia go back to the activities of the Polish Chamber Orchestra of Jerzy Maksymiuk. In April 1984, it invited Sir Yehudi Menuhin to appear in Poland both as soloist and conductor. To accommodate the planned repertoire the orchestra was expanded to forty musicians. The concerts under Sir Yehudi1s baton were such an overwhelming popular and critical success that the spontaneous idea of
a permanent ensemble of twenty-four strings and a double wind section became a reality. So great was Sir Yehudi1s interest in the new ensemble that he immediately signed a contract as the Principal Guest Conductor of what was to become Sinfonia Varsovia. Soon afterwards the orchestra was invited for a concert tour in the United States and Canada, followed by tours of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Britain, Argentina, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea.
Sinfonia Varsovia has performed in such prestigious venues as New York1s Carnegie Hall, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, London1s Barbican Centre, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as well as at major festivals (Schleswig-Holstein, Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg, OWarsaw Autumn1).
The long list of the world1s most renowned conductors and soloists who have performed with Sinfonia Varsovia includes Claudio Abbado, Charles Dutoit, Witold Lutos1awski, Jerzy Semkow, Martha Argerich, Teresa Berganza, Fou Ts1ong, Alicia de Larrocha, Shlomo Mintz, Maria Joao Pires, Radu Lupu and Tabea Zimmermann. The orchestra has made numerous recordings for Virgin Classics, Decca, Polskie Nagrania, Columbia Records, cd Accord and other labels, winning many prestigious awards such as the Grand Prix du Disque of the monthly Le Monde de la Musique, the Diapason d1Or and the OFryderyk1 Award of the Polish recording industry (1995, 1996).
In 1997, Krzysztof Penderecki, who had been associated with Sinfonia Varsovia for many years, became its Music Director. They have since made many tours together, often performing his compositions, such as Sinfonietta per archi, Flute Concerto, Viola Concerto (also in
a version for cello and clarinet), Credo, Seven Gates of Jerusalem. In 2001 the world famous Argentinian tenor José Cura was appointed the orchestra1s Principal Guest Conductor. Its Managing and Artistic Director is Franciszek WybraYczyk.
Sinfonia Varsovia acts under the aegis of the Stanis1aw I. Witkiewicz Arts Centre studio in Warsaw. Since 2000, its activities have been assisted by the Sinfonia Varsovia Foundation.
