born in 1974 in Italy, he studied composition with Mario
Garuti at the Arrigo Boito Conservatory in Parma. He participated in
seminars and masterclasses given by Lachenmann, Sciarrino, Grisey, Pou-sseur,
Levinas and Berio. At present he attends a course in computer music under
the guidance of Alvise Vidolin at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in
Venice and studies psychology at the University of Milan.
He won the ‘Prix du Trivium’ at the 29th International
Competition of Electroacoustic Music in Bourges (2002, for To Walk the Night)
and was a finalist of the International ‘Gaudeamus’ Competition
(2002–03). In 2004 his piece was selected for the Acanthes Composition
Workshop.
Marinoni’s music has been featured at numerous festivals, competitions
and workshops, including the First Paganini International Guitar Competition
in Parma (1999), ‘Compositori a Teatro’ in Man-tua (1999),
‘Doppio Gioco Stagione’ in Lugano (2000), ‘Musica nei
Chiostri’ in Milan (2001), Valsassina Festival (2001), ‘Synth¬se’
in Bourges (2003), the 14th Colloquium on Music Informatics in Florence
(2003), the 12th International Review of Composers in Bel-grade (2003), Citt±
di Udine (2001–02), the ‘Gaudeamus’ Inter-national Music
Week (2003), ‘Atelier sgnm 2000’, ‘Compositori
a Confronto’ in Reggio Emilia (2001, 2002, 2003), and ‘Nuova
Con-sonanza’ in Rome (2003).
His works have been broadcast by thirty one radio stations. Luce nera
– fase 14 is available on cd (the Aliamusica label, Parma), and To
Walk the Night was released by Mnemosyne Musique Média, Bourges (Culture
Electroniques, No. 16).

The piece was written in 2002. It was premiered on 1
September 2003 by Nieuw Ensemble conducted by Jurjen Hempel, during the
Gaudeamus International Music Week in Amsterdam.
