Ewa Pobłocka is one of the most distinguished Polish
pianists.
A graduate of the Music Academy in Gdańsk, she is a prizewinner of
prestigious piano competitions in Vercelli, Bordeaux and Warsaw. She has
toured extensively in almost all the European countries, both Americas,
South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Australia and South Africa. She has performed
at the Herkules-Saal in Munich, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Barbican
Centre and Wigmore Hall in London, Musikverein in Vienna, the Lincoln Center
in New York and the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. She has appeared with
renowned orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra,
the English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino,
Bayerischer Rund-funkorchester, Niederösterreiches Tonkünstelerorchester,
the Warsaw Philharmonic, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Polish Chamber Orchestra and
the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
Ewa Pobłocka’s recordings are available on the Deutsche Grammophon,
Gruner & Jahr, Polskie Nagrania, Victor jvc, Pony Canyon, Conifer
Records, kos Warsaw Records, BeArTon and cd Accord labels. The recording of
Lutosławski’s Piano Concerto under the composer’s baton won her
the 1996 ‘Record of the Year’ Award of the monthly magazine
‘Studio’. The cd featuring piano concertos by Panufnik, Lutos-ławski
and Szymański received the 1998 ‘Studio’ Award and the
‘Fryderyk’ Award of the Polish Phonographic Academy. Her
recording of Mieczysław Karło-wicz’s Songs (with Jadwiga Rappé)
also won the ‘Fryderyk’ Award. Her honours also include
Ireland’s John Field Medal for her recording of the composer’s
20 Nocturnes.
She recently recorded cds with Chopin’s complete mazurkas and the
Fantasy on Polish Airs Op. 13 (with Sinfonia Varsovia under Jacek Kaspszyk),
all of the j.s. Bach’s Partitas and Gabriel Fauré’s Nocturnes
(for Victor jvc) and with music by French composers (with Olga Pasiecznik,
for cd Accord).
In 2002 she received the ‘Fryderyk’ Award for her recordings of
Chopin’s Nocturnes, Mazurkas, Fantasy on Polish Airs and Andante
spianato and Grande Polonaise brillante for BeArTon’s series
‘The Na-tional Edition of Chopin’s Com-plete Works’ (the
cds also won ‘Fry-deryk’ nominations in the ‘best
re-cordings of Polish music’ category).
Since 2000 Ewa Pobłocka has been a professor at the Music Academy in
Bydgoszcz. She is also a member of juries for national and international
competitions. Her honours include the Knight’s Cross of the Order of
Polonia Restituta. In 2004 she received the Award of the Polish Minister of
Culture.
