born in Hillegom (The Netherlands), received her basic musical education at an early age but then decided to first enroll for her academic studies of Greek and Latin at Leiden University. She subsequently studied singing at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and choral conducting at the Conservatory in Rotterdam. While
a student, she was a member of the Capella Amsterdam, Nederlandse Bachvereigning, and Kamerkoor Nieuwe Muziek. Having gained her conductor’s diploma (1996), she was appointed an assistant at the Musikhochschule in Hanover.
In recent years she has concentrated on singing. As a member of ‘Schola Heidelberg’ (directed by Walter Nussbaum), she has participated in many first performances, radio broadcasts and cd productions. She also appears regularly with the Rheinische Kantorei, ndr-Chor (Hamburg), Balthasar-Neuman-Ensemble (dir. Th. Hen-gelbrock) and rias-Kammerchor.
In addition to the classical repertoire, Truike van der Poel has been acclaimed for her performances
of the music of the turn of 19th
century (Mahler), 20th-century classics as well as new music (Ustvolskaya, Ligeti, Spahlinger, Lachenmann). In 2002 she sang in a chamber opera by Carola Bauckholt at the Rheinisches Musikfest in Aachen and gave the first performances of pieces by Caspar Johannes Walter in Darmstadt (with Reinhold Friedrich, trumpet, and Ensemble Resonanz). She also gave the first performance of Salvatore Scarrino’s Due smarrimenti in Cologne. In February 2004, she was a soloist in Luigi Nono’s Il Canto sospeso in Honover (cond. Walter Nussbaum).
Truike van der Poel has collaborated with Ensemble TrioLog (Munich), Koelner Violenconsort, ‘Resonanz’ (Hamburg), and ‘Avantgarde’ (Leipzig). She has developed particularly close links with the Thürmchen Ensemble.

thürmchen ensemble
was founded in 1991 by the composers Carola Bauckholt and Caspar Johannes Walter, and the conductor Roland Kluttig. It specializes in contemporary and experimental repertoire, exploring new avenues in music. Its programmes comprise solo works, conducted ensemble pieces, and music written for the stage. It has given world premieres of over eighty pieces as well as numerous German premieres. In recent years it has concentrated on the promotion of composers from various countries who have so far had little chance of public exposure. Concerts featuring the music of
a single composer are another specialty of the ensemble. Carola Bauckholt, Helmut Oehring, Thomas Stiegler, Manos Tsangaris, Maria Cecilia Villanueva and
Caspar Johannes Walter have
been featured so far.
