Anna Szostak is one of the
leading choral conductors in Poland. She has founded and worked with several
vocal groups, including Camerata Silesia Soloists’ Ensemble which she
established in 1990. As artistic director of Camerata Silesia,
she has developed its artistic
profile which focuses on the
carefully-selected repertoire of both early and contemporary music.
Anna Szostak is also an inde-fatigable promoter of early music on period
instruments. She has
initiated and organized many concerts of Renaissance and Baroque
vocal-instrumental music. Both
in concert and on disc, she has
conducted several early music ensembles made up of leading Polish and
foreign musicians,
such as Il Tempo and Concerto Polacco, as well as many orchestras (together
with Antoni Wit she
conducted the National Polish Radio Orchestra in Lutosławski’s Trois
Po¬mes d’Henri Michaux).
She has performed with Emma Kirkby and Barbara Schlick and
has appeared at numerous prestigious venues and festivals in Poland and
abroad. Her discography includes 13 cds. Many composers have dedicated their
works to her Camerata Silesia and its soloists.
She has received many awards at choral competitions and festivals, including
the International Choral Festival in Międzyzdroje (1982), the
‘Legnica Cantat’ National Choral Tournament (1983 and 1986) and
the ‘Holsatia Cantat’ Internatio-nal Choral Competition in Neumünster
(1990). Her honours also include the Award of the Minister of Culture and
Art for outstanding musical achievements (1993).
