Rüdiger Bohn studied at the High Music Schools in
Cologne and Düsseldorf, conducting with Volker Wagenheim and piano with
David Levine. He also took part in the masterclasses given by Leonard
Bernstein, John Elliot Gardiner and Sergiu Celibidache.
He worked as the artistic director of Tübingen Sinfonietta (1988–96),
conductor of the Basel Theatre orchestra (1991–94), as well as
principal conductor of the Lü-beck Theatre orchestra (1996–2000),
where he prepared several Mozart produtions, Shostakovich’s The Nose
and Sallinen’s Kullervo.
Since 1997 he has served as
musical director of the Zeitge-
nössischen Oper in Berlin where
he conducted performances of works by G. Battistelli, Feldman, Henze, A. Hölszky,
Kagel, Ma-rtin, Reimann and Sciarrino.
Plans for 2004/2005 season in-
clude two first performances
with the Berlin company: Ver-suchung by Qu Xiao-song (for
the Munich Biennale) and Ortwechsel, eine Winteroper by
Rico Gubler (for Collegium
Novum Zürich). He is also to
produce Hans Zender’s Don Quixote (jointly with Komische Oper; dir.
Sabrina Hölzer).
He also appears on the concert platform, with such ensembles as Orchestre de
Chambre de Lausanne, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra Sinfonica
Nazionale della rai, the orchestra of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and
others.
