Henryk Wojnarowski has been the
Director of the Warsaw Phil-harmonic Choir since 1978. He studied
symphonic and operatic conducting with Stanisław Wisłocki at Warsaw’s
State Higher School of Music. From 1960 to 1978, he was conductor and
director of the Grand Opera Theatre Choir in Warsaw. During that time he
prepared about 80 opera productions, including several world premieres.
Wojnarowski has achieved notable success with the Warsaw Philharmonic
Choir, appearing in many prestigious venues in Poland and abroad,
including Milan’s La Scala (1985, 1989, 1990), Berlin, Munich, Paris,
Rome, Madrid and Jerusalem. He has collaborated with such prominent
conductors as Gary Bertini, Sergiu Comissiona, Kazimierz Kord, Jan Krenz,
Lorin Maazel, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Krzysztof
Penderecki, Witold Rowicki, Jerzy Semkow, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Stanisław
Skrowaczewski, Leopold Stokowski, Stanisław Wisłocki, Antoni Wit, and
Bohdan Wodiczko. With the Warsaw Philharmonic Choir, Wojnarowski has
prepared all of Krzysztof Penderecki’s oratorios and a cappella works.
He also has to his credit numerous Polish and world premieres of works by
contemporary composers. He has prepared the Warsaw Philharmonic Choir for
many recordings for radio and various labels. He also pursued a teaching
career in 1962–2002. He has the title of Professor.
